这座由Bruno Lucas Dias与Luís Ventura联合设计的纪念碑没有使用任何刻板的象征主义手法，完全颠覆了人们对纪念性设计的传统认知。

This projects is a radical departure from the traditional memorial concept: no stereotypical memorial symbolism has been used.

整个纪念碑由31块方形石块打造而成。经过精心挑选、大小一致的石块被排布为一个占地4.5平方米、错落有致的方形阵列。而石头本身的灰白原色让整个纪念碑看起来洁净异常，渲染出一种非真实的虚无氛围。

All compositional elements have been sorted and geometrically set. At the same time, the use of stone, its colour and asepsis, creates a feeling of emptiness.  This memorial is made of 31 stone blocks, measuring between 0,30 – 2,40 metres in height, and set on a 4,5m2 area.

正方形的体量被一点点切割，最高处由2.4米，而最低处仅有0.3米。高低错落的石块和与之相对应的缺失，仿佛呼应着一支从战争中归来的军队军人身上，或深或浅的伤痛。而方形体量中缺失的一角，则象征着被无情战火夺去生命，无法归来与家人团聚的军人。

The idea sets off from the fragmenting of a cube, which represented a group of combatants going to war, where missing elements leave an open void. The varying heights of them monoliths represent the sentimental ups and downs of those returning unharmed or with injuries, and the voids represent the absences of combatants whom fate did not return to their families.

设计所用的石材皆产自这些军人的故乡，材料的选择也加深了纪念碑与其所纪念之人的羁绊，渲染出更为沉重的氛围。

The choice of stone from the regional origins of the combatants stems from the heaviness of the feelings associated with the memory of those to whom this memorial is devoted.
