Espace Libre: To mark the 54th birthday of the twinning of the cities of ‘Asnières-sur-Seine’ and ‘Berlin- Spandau’, the city of Asnières is creating a mail leading up to a future kindergarten – a mail is a large pedestrian path lined with trees and plantations in an urban environment. The mail ‘Berlin- Spandau’ is innovative in terms of landscape design being inspired by German principles which include maintenance, materials, and living spaces. The future mail is a pedestrian pathway connecting the city and its school. It is also a place for parents to rest and relax whilst they are waiting for their children, a square for the locals and a place where young children can play.

Along its axis benches are engraved with german short phrases written by the local school children. These benches are arranged perpendicularly to the pathway, creating a comfortable place for people to catch up and watch the world go by. The lawn merges with the paving, surrounds the benches and stretches beyond. In the background, natural vegetation creates a visual filter with the adjacent nearby houses.
Being naturally involved in sustainable development and ecological concerns, German landscape development is a great source of inspiration that has enabled Asnières-sur-Seine to take a step closer to one of its major preoccupations, becoming ever more naturally and environmentally responsible.
