[EN] The design of "Le Serre" has enjoyed the big simplification to act on a large urban void free from existing structures and from special planning restrictions, only the respect of streets.

Thanks to this condition, extremely rare in Tirana, it was possible to freely investigate the settlement pattern that has been identified in a balance between two opposite poles: the city as homogeneous pattern of blocks and / or as the sum of isolated buildings. From these two models were selected values to keep: on one side the block as a regulator of the fabric of the city and, on the other side, the open scheme which guarantees the continuity of urban public space.

Within this framework the design has followed a process repeated at different scales based on repetition and difference.

The area is located in the south-east of the city where, as often happens in Tirana we faced with the request of a high density development.

The answer to the condition of Tirana, city dense and irregular at the same time, has been searched in a delicate balance between closing and opening considering the city as an evolving organism.

The goal of Atenastudio is to produce spaces with their own strong formal identity without considering them completely autonomous, placing them in an immediate dialogue with the context with the aim to broaden the interference of the project to an area considerably wider.

This research for a strong identity, which answer to a purely urban need, lately matched, at a smaller scale, with the maximum promotion of the difference as a social and architectural value.

As a result of the process, the urban design resulted from a sum of systems - linear and tower buildings, horizontal and vertical connections, bridges, cantilevers etc., - and the architectural design  as the sum of matrix - typologies, facades, roofs etc.

The main aspect of the intervention is to assign to urban voids a central role in the project, void no longer understood as a consequence of the built environment but itself as a theme, with the aim of bringing within the complexity of the intervention on the urban space. At the architectural scale, attention was directed to overcome the separation between external areas and internal space, working on the denial of the threshold.

[ITA] La progettazione de “Le serre” ha goduto della grossa semplificazione di intervenire su un consistente vuoto urbano libero da preesistenze e da particolari vincoli urbanistici se non il rispetto degli assi viari.

Grazie a questa condizione, estremamente rara a Tirana, si è potuto indagare liberamente il modello insediativo che è stato individuato in un equilibrio tra due opposti: la città come tessuto omogeneo di blocchi e/o come sommatoria di edifici isolati.

Di questi due modelli sono stati selezionati i valori da conservare: da una parte il blocco come regolatore del tessuto della città, dall’altra lo schema aperto, garante della continuità dello spazio pubblico urbano.

All’interno di questo quadro la progettazione ha seguito un processo reiterato a varia scala di ripetizione e differenza.

L’area di’intervento si trova nella zona sud-est della città dove ci si è trovati, come spesso accade a Tirana, a dover affrontare la richiesta della committenza di una forte densità.

La risposta alla condizione di Tirana, città densa e disomogenea allo stesso tempo, è stata ricercata all’interno di un delicato equilibrio tra chiusura ed apertura considerando la città come un organismo in fase evolutiva.

L’obiettivo di Atenastudio è stato quello di produrre spazi dotati di una propria marcata identità formale senza però arrivare mai a considerarli autonomi, ma inserendoli in un dialogo immediato con il contesto con il fine di ampliare il campo di interferenza del progetto ad una area sensibilmente più vasta.

Questa ricerca di una forte identità, che risponde ad una esigenza prettamente urbana, si è in seguito coniugata, scendendo di scala, alla massima promozione della differenza come valore sociale oltre che architettonico.

Come risultato del processo, la progettazione urbana è stata ottenuta come somma di sistemi - edifici in linea e a torre, collegamenti orizzontali e verticali, piastre, ponti, sbalzi ecc., - quella architettonica come somma di componenti di matrici - tipologie, facciate, coperture ecc.

L’aspetto principale dell’intervento è quello di assegnare al vuoto un ruolo centrale per il progetto, vuoto inteso non più come mera risultante del pieno ma esso stesso come materia, con l’obbiettivo di portare all’interno dell’intervento la complessità dello spazio urbano e generare una interfaccia di mutuo scambio. Alla scala architettonica l’attenzione è stata  indirizzata al superamento della separazione tra esterno ed interno lavorando sulla negazione della soglia.
