Perkins+Will designed the North Hennepin Community College Bioscience and Health Careers Center located in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota.
The new Bioscience and Health Career Center is designed to create connections, facilitate collaboration and provide an innovative space for education.
Serving the Nursing, Bioscience and Medical Lab Technology programs, the 62,500 square foot (5,800 square meter) facility consists of classrooms, tiered lecture rooms, bioscience labs, home-care room, Nursing labs, simulations rooms and two BioLounges. On a commuter campus, these BioLounges will encourage interdisciplinary collaboration and social interaction among students and between students and faculty.
Augmenting the connectivity afforded by the physical space, technology is incorporated into the design that provides students and faculty with new ways of connecting, collaborating and learning both on and off campus. A telepresence room creates a space for life-size interaction with faculty and students at other institutions.
In learning environments, technology will enhance student experience with instantaneous feedback. Student performance in simulation rooms that mimic clinical, medical supply and in-home care can be monitored in real-time and reviewed in debrief rooms with faculty and other students.
