Atelier Boter takes place at a former storage shed that was used for fish farming. As the family fish farming business switched to an alternative farm, the shed was left unused and was occasionally a place for Mahjong. When Chung Kai Hsieh, one of the founders of Atelier Boter returned to his hometown in Pingtung and decided to initiate a design studio with his partner Wen Shan Foo, they utilized the unused space and transformed it into their first studio.
The two major moves were expanding one of the windows into an L-shaped glazing and cutting a hole on the concrete floor as a plantable ground. A ceiling was added using OSB boards while the original concrete floor was redone with an addition of colored powder, resulting in an effect resembling a marble floor. Intending to create an open space but with separated functions, permeable furniture is used to differentiate multiple zones.
The full width and height door remained as it fits Atelier Boter's intention to welcome any passerby, as they are happy to share their space with the people who appreciate it as much as they do.
