The restaurant ? Yafo, the first Parisian hummus deli has opened on 20 April 2017. Created by Lotan Lahmi, a young Israeli cook and pastry chef who arrived in France in 2010, the restaurant offers a selection of hummus every day, mixing typical Levant products and seasonal French products.
The concept ? A canteen with very soft pastel tones, pink paint on the walls and ceiling, 10 x 10 cm white tiles on the walls and on the tables, contrasted by terracotta colored joints. This Mediterranean atmosphere, embedded in its Millenium pink, is discovered after passing by the door of the deep green Farrow and ball facade. This green and pink duo is found inside, followed by an ultra-matt waxed concrete in the shade of khaki leather.
La petite touche ? Some indian aluminium kitchen stands in which, like a grocery store, are stored plates, jars of lemons, chickpeas, bottles of rose water, books of Israeli cuisine, and so on. Fiberglass-colored trays from Merci, on which we have lunch, and nice mismatched cutlery chipped through flea markets.
The graphic design? By reworking «Bifur» the typography created by the graphic designer Cassandre in 1927, the graphic identity of YAFO is inspired by the very present Bauhaus in Tel Aviv. The lines are softened, as hand-drawn, in the image of the free and artisanal spirit claimed by YAFO.
Who? Studio sur rue. Behind this name: Sonia Assouly and Laure Chouraqui, both architects with various experiences in the field of architecture, interior design, decoration, and artistic direction (Magasin Merci, Mercadito, MVRDV...).
The Parisian studio has been working for 3 years on renovation and decoration of apartments, offices and now restaurants. Intervening in a transversal way between the project, the follow-up of the works, the decoration, the furnishing, the graphic identity of the place ... All the Artistic Direction finally.
