National Bank of Abu Dhabi appointed Gensler to design its new headquarters in the prominent Al Maryah Island, as they planned to demonstrate its intent to be at the heart of the new Abu Dhabi Central Business District. The strategic landmark building was to exude presence and dignity while offering lower running costs, optimum value, increased flexibility, and public interface. Incorporating a hub bank, trading floors, auditoria, conferencing centre, offices, executive lounges, and eateries, the building’s appeal was to stem in large part from its highly efficient floor plate. The waterfront facade was designed to respond to both climate and culture, with fins that provide optimum solar shading, external views, and visual verticality.
