100 E 53rd Street
Foster and Partners, the architecture and integrated design practice originally based in London, has designed, in collaboration with vanke and aby rosen of RFR, the ‘100 e 53rd street’ residential tower thought to be built in Midtown Manhattan, NY. It will be opened by 2017.
The tower will be located on the corner of Lexington street and the 53rd, and will have sixty-one storeys. It will be an outstanding addition to the existing remarkable skyline of the city, rising close to the 157 meters tall Seagram Building designed by Mies van der Rohe and completed in 1958.The slender 216meters tall tower has a minimalist and rational design and a glazed skin which in some way recalls the twentieth-century modernist building by Mies.

The access to the tower will be recessed beneath a canopy, plus the glazed atrium will link the tower to a smaller building; in the smaller building will be located some public facilities, a restaurant a bar a swimming pool and a spa.The tower with its 61 storeys will host lounge areas apartment levels (94 units) and lounge areas; specifically the larger apartment will be located on the higher levels, even taking up an entire floor. Each apartment, elegantly refined with luxury materials, will benefit from daylight and enjoy the view of the cityscape; thanks to the innovative façade, indeed, every floor will be flooded with natural light. Furthermore the façade conceals the structural elements hidden behind shadow boxes.
The tower will definitely be an elegant addition to the already unforgettable and unique cityscape of New York.
