Euljirosaiwas a project set out to connect the region with people and culture to create a virtuous cycle of development and coexistence of local communities.  Located in the subway station of Euljiro-3-ga, the project featured the work of local industrial masters, local artists, design studios, and creators.

Subway connects a city to another.  It has vertical and horizontal axes on the 2D and 3D coordinates as it connects between cities and from underground to above ground.  A module that simplifies the subway’s travel on the coordinates and its tracks becomes the conveyor of contents and expands along the vertical and horizontal axes.  Various contents are grouped along the horizontal axis, while the vertical rhythm along the vertical axis captures the pedestrians.

Blue refers to youth and expansion and gold symbolizes ‘Gurigae,’ which was the old name for Euljiro, and Euljiro’s industrial and cultural flourishment.  The visually prominent line lighting has been added symbolizes the cities connected by subway and the cultural relationship betweenlocal artists and pedestrians.

Euljirosai is divided into Culture Zone and Art Street.  Culture Zone tells the story of Euljiro with independent publications, magazines, the video contents that have captured Euljiro from a unique perspective and provides a cultural map of special spots nearby. Art Street is an art tunnel exhibiting the work of local artists.  A structural object using the center columns is used to display the artworks, leaving the walls empty.  The pedestrians do not simply pass the artworks, but they can stay in the space to discover and experience the value in Euljiro’s industries and culture. 

It is significant that the passageway within the station has been transformed into an art tunnel.  Also, it will be a virtuous cycle model of local businesses that cherish the value of Euljiro’s industries and culture and connect people to people.
