The themes that in various ways revolve around the culture and use of cycling are those of urban ecology, starting with respect for the environment, with particular attention paid to sustainable mobility, urban mobility, slow fruition of the historical and cultural heritage of our territories and urban regeneration: sustainable mobility favours urban and territorial requalification projects, energy recovery and saving, urban safety and health.
In the municipality of Corato there is not yet a Velostation: the social context of the city has a little active urban cycling but it is developing, in the sense that the bike could be used not only for recreational, sporting, but also as a transport system and urban mobility, given the pleasant and suitable orographic conformation of the city context.
One of the reasons for the project is to give the new Velostation in Corato a strongly symbolic meaning capable of capturing the attention of citizens (from adults to children...) by introducing an architectural element architecturally linked to the identity of the place and the local historical/cultural context (the architectural form of the roof in fact recalls the typology of medieval and Romanesque churches, but also a play hut built in a wood, all as if it were immersed in a fairy tale).
The project has been conceived with a high degree of adaptability to the context and also considering the physical (existing pine trees that would not be cut down) and spatial limitations due to the organisation and running of the site. For the latter reason, the architects opted for a planimetric distribution which avoided cutting down the trees, by building a repetitive set of identical modules which also pursued a certain constructive essentiality. The CoratoVelostation project is also part of the smart city logic: with an APP, in fact, the user (the urban cyclist) will be able to access and safely park his bike using online systems. The CoratoVelostation is the first concrete step towards a new season of Sustainable Mobility (inclusive and eco-responsible).
