研究主线
在一整年的学习中,我们的设计和研究基于被动动态行为,这种行为/运动的产生来源于周围的环境(被动干预)和参与者的控制(主动参与)。一系列的物理模型的设计制作传递了从起初对悬铃木种子螺旋被动式降落的研究到最后1:1尺寸被动展开华盖的不断深入的研究,这种被动动态的方法探索的是一种热能和机械能之间的转换,从而能够通过周围环境的影响产生具有序列感的展开变化,这种变化是可持续的,不需要电能驱动的装置艺术。
former project
Exploring passive dynamic motion responsive to ambient environment temperature and human occupation. A series of physical prototypes transform to provide varying amounts of shading in response to local conditions. The ‘passive dynamic’ approach exploits transitions between different states of mechanical and thermal equilibrium to enable sequences of deployment solely by harvesting changes in ambient energy.

而这其中的核心是关于一个使用者、周围的环境因素和一个具有建筑尺度结构的装置之间相互作用的研究。最终的毕业设计叫做被动展开的华盖,它既演示了装置本身能够根据季节气候的变化而转换成机械能量控制装置打开与关闭,同时又能够加入使用者的参与,使得这样的互动装置在每一天都能给人带来奇妙而不同的视觉感受。
整套机械装置的核心是“热动力”,这是一种新型智能材料,即在密封的活塞里装有一定量的蜡,通过外界温度的变化,活塞内的蜡将会在固态和液态间转换,从而将热能转换成机械能量,输送给整套装置。
final project
The result of this year of research is a study about the interplay between an occupant and an architectural-scale structure that has movable elements. A deployable canopy demonstrates the possibility of both a passive response to seasonal conditions, as well as the difference between days that are sunny compared with those that are mostly overcast. People can expect a variety of physical transformations particularly in the unpredictable climate of London’s, resulting in a canopy that likely appears different everyday of the week.
The project was realised using a ‘heat-motor’, this technology exploits the expansion of wax during phase-change to convert thermal-to-mechanical energy. This conversion is both reversible and takes place solely through passive transfers of energy without the need for electricity or a computerised control system.
