背景与改造前状态 Background and condition before renovation

上海划船俱乐部位于南苏州路76号，外白渡桥与乍浦路桥之间，北邻苏州河，与上海大厦隔岸对望；南侧为城市道路，紧邻原新天安堂、原英国领事馆；东侧靠近外滩。

Shanghai Rowing Club is located at No. 76, South Suzhou Road, between Shanghai Garden Bridge and Zha-pu Road Bridge, adjacent to Suzhou Creek in the north, and across the bank from Shanghai Building.On the south side is the city road, close to the former Union Church and the former British Consulate. The Bund is on its east side.

原划船俱乐部拥有百年历史，由东侧船库、中部会所、西侧游泳侧三部分组成，在历史演进中遭受多次拆改。项目开始前的划船俱乐部，仅剩中部按原样复建的会所建筑和西侧门头。西侧游泳池被填为四道草坪，东侧也被绿化包围，进入性较差。会所建筑东西侧墙上装饰了屋架轮廓，暗示原有的空间布局。

The rowing club has a history over one hundred years. It was once composed of three parts: the boathouse on the east side, the clubhouse in the middle part, and the swimming pool on the west side. Before the start of this project, only the central clubhouse and the west arch were rebuilt as they were. The swimming pool on the west side was filled with four lawns, and the east side was surrounded by greenery, which was inaccessible. The figure of the roof truss was decorated on both east and west walls of the club building, suggesting the original spatial layout.

形制的历史演进 Form evolution in history

原划船俱乐部始建于1903年。解放后遭到不同程度的拆建改建，成为黄浦区游泳馆。20世纪90年代初，由于吴淞闸桥的建设，建筑东翼被拆除，西翼改为平屋顶，作为网球场使用，中部会所高度在原有基础上增加约4米，加建至四层。2009年6月20日，上海划船俱乐部旧址因城市建设几近拆除。会所结构部分被保留，于2010年依原貌复建。西侧游泳池部分按照泳池特征被填为草坪。此次设计希望能够在一定程度上还原建筑体量的原始状态。

The original rowing club was founded in 1903. After liberation, it was demolished and reconstructed to varying degrees and became a swimming pool of Huangpu District. In the early 1990s, due to the construction of the Wusong Gate Bridge, the east wing of the building was pulled down, and the west wing was replaced with a flat roof, which was used as a tennis court. The central clubhouse was increase the height by four meters and built to four floors. On June 20, 2009, the rowing club was almost demolished due to urban construction. The structure of the clubhouse was preserved and rebuilt in 2010 according to its original appearance. The west side swimming pool was filled as lawns according to the characteristics of the swimming pool. This design is to restore the original state of the building to a certain extent.

建筑形态追溯式塑造 Retrospective shaping of architectural form

设计中首先从整体性空间梳理入手。设计打开了划船俱乐部与防汛墙之间的步行空间，扩大建筑东侧硬地，将划船俱乐部的建筑与滨河公共空间有机地融为一体，同时保留并强化原划船俱乐部东翼船库、中部会所、西翼游泳池的空间格局。

The design is started with the overall space combing. It opens the pedestrian space between the rowing club and the flood wall, expands the hard ground on the east side of the building, and organically integrates the rowing club with the riverside public space, while retaining and strengthening the spatial layout of the original rowing club.

在建筑的西侧，结合室外景观、遗存门头，使用钢结构框架为基础对原游泳池建筑进行现代化的演绎，搭建一个抽象化的结构框架。纤细的钢结构以“格构柱”和“复合钢梁”相互穿插的形式，按照场地遗留痕迹以及历史图纸判断，“复原”构架形态、轴网关系。在屋面之间张拉钢索，结合钢结构混凝土柱脚种植爬藤植物，形成一个生态绿意的虚透界面。灯光结合钢结构之间的“缝隙”布置，在夜晚形成幽静的灯光环境和照明体验。

On the west side of the building, combined with the outdoor landscape and the arch, the steel structure frame is used as the basis to modernize the original swimming pool and build an abstract structure frame. The slender steel structure uses the form of lattice columns and composite steel beams interspersed with each other, judging by the traces of the site and historical drawings, recovering the frame form and grid relationship. Tension steel cables between the roofs, combined with the steel structure concrete column foot to plant climbing plants to form an ecologically green interface. The lights are hidden in the gaps between steel structures to form a quiet lighting environment at night.

在建筑的东侧，以与西侧相似的结构模式，预制8组钢结构灯架，组成灯阵广场。广场内部铺设植草砖。相对简洁的灯阵提示原有的船库空间，成为更加景观化和放松的，与景观草坪相结合的公共空间。东西两组钢架，可以让市民以一种通透的与现实叠合的方式，追溯上海划船俱乐部曾经的形态特征和空间氛围。

On the east side of the building, in a structural pattern similar to that on the west side, 8 groups of steel structure light stands are prefabricated to form a light array square. Grass-planting bricks are laid inside the square. The relatively simple light array reminds the original boathouse space and becomes a more landscaping and relaxing public space combined with the landscape lawn. The two sets of steel frames in the east and the west lead the citizens to trace the morphological characteristics and spatial atmosphere of Shanghai Rowing Club as a translucent image that overlaps with reality.

泳池挖掘和恢复 Excavation and restoration of the swimming pool

泳池作为划船俱乐部原有的重要组成部分，在公共空间塑造中会成为具有特色的亮点，因此在设计中希望将泳池空间挖掘恢复，在经过初步仔细的“考古”式的挖掘后，发现泳池结构完好，表面马赛克也基本完好，因此坚定了恢复泳池空间的信心。泳池内部还有后期附加的三道长轴向地垄墙。

As the original important part of the rowing club, the swimming pool should become a distinctive highlight in the shaping of the public space. Therefore,the swimming pool needed to be excavated and restored. After preliminary and careful “archaeological” excavation, the swimming pool structure was discovered Intact, and the surface mosaic was basically intact, which strengthened the confidence in restoring the pool space. There were also three long axial ridge walls added in the pool.

去除现有植被与堆土，拆除池中三道后增墙体，泳池空间“重见天日”，呈现出了原有的空间状态：长50余米、宽约30米，由一个浅池戏水池和一个拥有四条泳道的深池共同构成。在进一步的设计中，我们尽量保留泳池原有的形制特征和材料魅力，重点围绕提升泳池的可达性与公共性与泳池表面修复展开。

We removed existing vegetation and mound and the three walls. The pool space saw the light of day again, presenting the original spatial state: more than 50 meters long and 30 meters wide, consisting of a shallow pool and paddling pool. In the further design, we tried to retain the original shape and material charm of the swimming pool, focusing on improving the accessibility and publicity of the swimming pool and restoring the surface of the swimming pool.

参与未来的历史 Participation in the history of the future

至此泳池空间成为一个带有顶棚空间限定的公共空间，人们可以进入到泳池中，从“池底”的视角回溯时光更替。泳池的空间可以成为展厅、咖啡厅、舞台、T台等多功能的状态，让市民以一种全新的生活方式体验原划船俱乐部的场所感和社交感。划船俱乐部将以公共空间的身份，继续参与在未来的历史中。

So far, the pool space has become a public space under steel truss roof. People can enter the pool and look back at the time change from the perspective of the “pool bottom”. The space of the swimming pool can become an exhibition hall, a cafe, a stage, a catwalk or any other multi-functional states, allowing citizens to experience the sense of place and social interaction of the original rowing club with a brand-new lifestyle. Shanghai Rowing Club will continue to participate in the future history as a public space.
