Rødbanken is located in the middle of the city center in Tromsø. Since the building was completed in 1915 Rødbanken has housed the biggest bank in Northern Norway. In addition to SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge other functions such as the public library and a flower shop also had their location here, even the ball room was rented out to the local dance school.
Over the years the bank expanded and needed more space for banking purposes so external functions had to wave space for the bank.
In 2016, the SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge decided to gather the different departments in one building as well as promoting their charity work. The building process was a golden opportunity to reconstruct the whole block surrounding Rødbanken.
Through a close cooperation with the project group we created a concept for the workspace and the identity of the building. Flexible, functional and open were the first principles for the design of the work space.
