Placed in the heart of Rødovre, the City Hall expansion mediates the transition between the historical Arne Jacobsen´s building, its adjacent park and the upcoming residential area of Karrébyen, creating a vibrant and attractive destination for all the town´s residents.
The building, with its shifted blocks and niches, encourages public life while providing varied and efficient working spaces where civic functions can be performed.
Our proposal aims at complementing the existing town hall, designed by Arne Jacobsen, while respecting its cultural and architectural heritage. The new civic building steps down to meet the scale of the existing structure and facilities around it, creating a transition towards the new lively residential area to the north.
Designed to be able to adapt to changing needs, the building is characterized by a flexible organization and based on the idea of a dynamic working space. Each floor comprehends a variety of solutions that range from flexible work stations to more secluded zones.
The green character of the site permeates the building, creating green terraces and pockets that benefit the working environment and attract public life in and around the city hall. Through the interplay between indoor and outdoor, the building becomes both a functional working space and a destination for all inhabitants of Rødovre.
