The clinic is in a two-story home located in a privileged zone of Valencia, the Plaza América, between the area of Ensanche and the Turia River Park, just in front an ancient pedestrian stone bridge called the Bridge of the Sea.
The renovation proposes placing the consultation facilities upstairs, where the patients and the staff spend most of their time during the normal use of the clinic. Thus, the natural light is optimised in most of the indoor spaces, and more privacy is afforded. In contrast, the ground floor is smaller, and it is initially more open to the street. But the operating rooms are also located here, completely closed and hidden by advertising panels.
The stairs are the clinic’s main spatial element. They lead to the upper floor from the entrance, and the staircase stands out as a wooden volume, which becomes the main feature of the facility. The materials we used in the rest of the project were chosen according to the use of the rooms: white, clean, aseptic materials for the consultation areas, and warm, comfortable materials for waiting rooms and public areas.
