Oyshi restaurant was the idea of its two owners, who, after returning from Japan, dreamed of bringing a little bit of Japanese culture back to Slovakia and specifically to the town of Trenčín. TheirOyshi menu is based on fresh ingredients from high quality local producers and offers traditional and modern style sushi, as well as seasonal fusion dishes.

The owners´ enthusiasm in planning their new restaurant, their openness to new ideas and good taste in architecture, interior and design, encouraged us to be creative in our approach to their sushi bar. Right away, we knew what feelings we wanted the customers to have, when they walked in and dined at Oyshi. In addition to the gustatory experience, which is the chef´s domain, we also wanted to convey a similar visual sensation. Japanese culture is fascinating in many aspects, but the ones we got most interested in, were simplicity and contrast, common in Japanese habit of thought, as well as architecture.

The Oyshi restaurant is based on these two concepts. The roomsaround the primary dining spacelike the entrance, kitchen and bathrooms are painted in dark color, while the dining area itself is painted in light color. We like to think of this contrast between the primary and secondary spacesas a form of background – a canvas for a rich culinary experience.

Contrast is also at work in the microcosm of each individual room. Even though the walls, ceiling and floor are in one color tone, each of them hasa different surface: in the entrance, for example, the floor is made of black ceramic paving blocks, the walls of rough black plaster and the ceiling is smooth black.

The entrance has a form of a trapezoid with a curved wall, which evokes a feeling of walking through a cave. At its end, it opens up into a spacious dining area dominated by a metal bar, covered by light beige interior stucco and ceramic mosaic tiles, for preparing sushi. Diners can watch their rolls being made and peep through the open bar into the busy dark toned kitchen behind it, where hot food is prepared.

The perimeter walls of the dining area, with windows and doors opening onto a terrace, are covered by wave drapery. Curved corners and vaulted arches between rooms soften the space´s overall appearance.All the furniture, including benches, chairs and tables in the dining area, is made of beautiful shaded alder wood. This is the third and last color you will see in the Oyshi interior. It is a contrasted, yet simple space, rich with gustatory and visual sensations, mirroring those found in the dishes of Asian cuisine.
