“Soto kangei” or “Welcome outside” poses an invitation to visit an “outodoorsy interior” . A hygienic / service facility that was, in spite of its private and intimate nature, treated as a public space and a mute white shelter amid the multiple stylistic proposals that overlap themselves at Casa Decor: An indoor oasis that aims to make the visitors travel to a distant Zen garden through a peculiar arrangement of greenery and a powerful illumination scheme, but most importantly, by treating its envelope as a series of white, geometric, urban façades.
Once inside the toilets gardens sprout like moss over beds of gravel, fall down from false skylights on the roof, and multiplied themselves in a series of mirror reflections blended in with iconic Japanese prints covering the walls. “The Great Wave” from Kanagawa, along with an “engraved” japanese Koy fish are graphically translated into the language of the tiles, adding new layers of meaning upon the space: An original envelope that provides the room with a touch of vibrant colour and a hint of visual texture complemented by the ultra-modern sanitary furniture created by Boing.
