The Project at Number 2 Hakalir St. is located in the heart of a UNESCO declared area of significant cultural heritage. The project is an extension to an existing corner building, facing an open greenery with a dominant presence in the area.
The original building is from the 50's and has all the characteristics of the era in Tel-Aviv, a detached building elevated from the ground by columns.
The two merging streets define the triangular shape of the property, with a sharp angle at the front that gives the building a dynamic look.
The main volume of the structure is lifted by pillars with the balconies hanging from it. The balconies on the two main facades are built on a grid of columns and beams which also decorate the facades.
The additions to the existing structure consist of a new floor on top, which keeps within the building contour, and a new penthouse floor which is retracted. We will also encase and strengthen the old building with a concrete shell.
The new additions to the building honors the characteristics of the original structure, which used to have at the front open balconies that were closed over time. The beams of the balconies were newly plastered and the gaps enclosed with Prodema HPL cladding and aluminum.
The new additional floor, kept within the contour of the existing facades, will serve as a background for the protruding balconies. The balconies to the main road facade will join the building in a concaved shape, creating a large balcony with a view to the park.
The penthouse floor on top, pushed back from the buildings main contour, leaves a long vitrine all along the two facades, facing an ample roof terrace. The corner of the building at the front is the only solid element, to emphasize the angled corner of the streets. At the front, the top floor ends in a pergola made out of concrete, hanging over the roof terrace.
