A temporary project in the public realm is currently attracting a lot of attention in Vienna: For three weeks, a seven-lane crossing between the 7th and 15th Districts on Vienna’s Gürtel ring road has been transformed into a centrally-located, vibrant living and leisure space with a surprisingly urban quality.

该项目被命名为Gürtelfrische WEST，意为西站前的新鲜地带，它贯穿了维也纳火车西站前方的一处繁忙场地，在城市的中央位置形成了一个结合绿植、泳池、日光浴草坪、舞蹈和运动区、餐饮区、可移动座位等一系列休闲功能的公用场地，同时为音乐会、合唱和舞蹈等各类文化活动提供了舞台。

The urban living environment has become more important to us – not least against the background of the current corona crisis. Since last weekend, a central location usually dominated by traffic crossing Vienna’s Gürtel in front of the city’s Westbahnhof railway station has been home to a harmonious ensemble of green space, swimming pool, sunbathing lawn, dance and movement programmes, consumer-free zones, catering, mobile furniture and a range of other leisure options for young and old.

此外，场地中还包含一个巴士实验室和旅馆，用于举办城市主题的工作坊以及为游客提供住宿空间。在特定的时间段，骑行者们还可以在此享受到Fahrrad Wien提供的免费自行车检查服务。
Cultural attractions (concerts, DJ evenings, choirs, dance workshops, etc.) are also part of the project, as is a bus-laboratory with workshops and events on urban subjects and a bus- hotel, in which visitors can spend the night. At selected times, cyclists can also take advantage of a free cycle check provided by Fahrrad Wien.

维也纳副市长Birgit Hebein表示：“在短短几天内，一个繁忙的车道路口被转变成一处充满欢乐的绿洲，让每个年龄段的人都能在此相聚。 该项目展示了城市空间再分配的潜力，以及它所能实现的目标。我们非常高兴地看到，Gürtelfrische WEST正引发着一场关于城市转型的讨论。”
According to Deputy Mayor Birgit Hebein, “in just a few days a seven-lane junction in the heart of Vienna was transformed into a green oasis – a wonderful meeting place for young and old. Gürtelfrische WEST brings people together and shows what can be achieved through the redistribution of urban space. We are delighted that this project in Vienna has enabled us to trigger a discussion about transforming cities.”

该项目是在维也纳交通管理局的支持下，由维也纳市政交通部、第15区和第7区政府部门与KÖR公司合作发起；概念深化和统筹方为art:phalanx和Kultur & Urbanität；设计方为heri&salli建筑事务所。
The project was initiated by the Transport Department of Vienna City Council and the 15th (Rudolfsheim-Fünfhaus, District Head Gerhard Zatlokal) and 7th (Neubau, District Head Markus Reiter) Districts in cooperation with KÖR – Kunst im öffentlichen Raum Wien and with the support of the Vienna Mobility Agency. The agency art:phalanx, Kultur & Urbanität is responsible for the detailed concept and the general management.
