Clínica da Vila is a dental surgery located in Ericeira, a small fishing town half an hour by car from Lisbon on the Portuguese West coast.
The project consisted of restructuring the ground floor area within a two storey building located in the historical centre of the town.
The interior of the former store, subject to diverse interventions and utilisations over the course of time, did not display any substantial constructive or spatial logic and hence explaining the need for its complete rehabilitation.
Correspondingly the intervention extended to include the spatial reorganisation of the layout and thus establishing the conditions to receive new functions – the street facing reception and consultation rooms with the technical support spaces concentrated within the interior of the building.
In contrast with the minimalist white background that characterises the general ambience of the space, the project featured the design of inbuilt pieces of furniture, such as the reception counter finished in pine applied in a zig-zag pattern. The artificial lighting was also surgically placed so as to emphasise the public areas within the building.
