Jaime Beriestain Studio bolsters the identities of the new establishments of the emblematic FARGA Group of Barcelona based companies, which have been making artisanal ice creams since 1957. "I travelled back to my childhood to conceptualise these ice-cream parlours", says Jaime Beriestain.
The celebrated firm has placed its trust in Jaime Beriestain Studio for the makeover of its different establishments, creating new concepts in decoration and interior design to differentiate its customers and the products it offers them. Fruit of this partnership, two separate identities have been born: FARGGI ICE-CREAM PARLOURS & CAFES: Artisanal ice-cream parlours with a contemporary twist.
SECRETS BY FARGA: A social hub with a touch of industrial new chic.
THE CONCEPT “The challenge was to express a refreshed conception of the identity of Farga’s ice-cream parlours, on the basis of an integrated image proposal”. Summer in the city. A place for disconnecting from the urban hubbub and from time itself, allowing you to rest and relax awhile.
THE INSPIRATION Jaime found inspiration for this work in the memories of his childhood and its vacations, to evoke a setting bathed in the light of the Mediterranean, creating a bright, summery atmosphere. At every establishment, towering palms emphasise this summer holiday effect we associate with ice creams. And, given that Farga is a Mediterranean company, Jaime Beriestain leveraged this resource to highlight its origins. The decoration boasts ethno-chic nods with the use of Dedar fabrics, inspired by African wax prints, and relief tiling contributing to the effect of going on holiday. The terrazzo floor, designed exclusively for these establishments, finds its inspiration in ice cream toppings, thanks to inlaid incrustations of colours such as topaz pink, emerald green and ruby red. The establishment is tailor-made for a youthful, cosmopolitan, well-travelled, social media-savvy clientele with a taste for something different.
KEY ELEMENTS
Ceramic awning The traditional fabric awning has been reinvented to be become a ceramic one, infusing the establishments with character, freshness and timelessness.
Display counter The front of the ice cream display counter is a tailor-made design, and is a direct allusion to chocolate bars and waffle irons.
Terrazzo floors and tables A technical challenge given the complexity of their placement. The terrazzo is inspired by ice cream toppings. Both floors and tables have been designed exclusively for these establishments, to give them a youthful, sophisticated air full of personality.
The palm tree and lighting ceiling The conceptual symbol of Farggi Ice Cream Parlours and Cafes: the palm trees, evoke holidays and the Mediterranean summer. Lighting ceiling created using a stretched backlit membrane, from Barrisol, in collaboration with the studio Lighting Design BMLD.
COLOUR RANGE Jaime Beriestain has employed an edible range of colours reminiscent of cupcakes and ice creams. The pastels tones provide a playful, upbeat and relaxed air, in line with the sweet world of childhood and ice creams.
