scattered along the mount lee drive trail leading up to the landmark hollywood sign, london-based ordinary architecture has installed ‘falling icon’ for on the road project‘s series of public art interventions. exploring their own innate fascination with super-graphics, the studio has built huge, three-dimensional letterforms from white material and placed them throughout the 3.5km trail that leads up to the los angeles emblem. Positioned nearby each giant capital is a series of viewfinders striped like rockslide warning signs. as unsuspecting trekkers encounter a towering ‘H’ in their path, a look through the ‘trick’ viewfinder shows the same letter missing from the original sign, suggesting that the letters have tumbled down the side of the hill. Continuing up the site, more missing characters and accompanying lenses can be discovered, until finally there is nothing left of the sign at all.
