The petrochemical complex occupied a huge site approximately 5,000 acres in area totally, within which and sealed off from the plant area , was much smaller plot for the ‘Non- Process’ Buildings ,i.e. the buildings that were not connected to the plant process. They included the main administration building, the fire station, the central kitchen and dining facility , the training centre, the medical centre and various gatehouses.
When RSA got involved in the project , the petrochemical plant was still in the process of being put up, and the client was able to provide only very rough estimates about the exact sizes and facilities required for each of the non-process buildings ,the number of people who would be using them and so on. So, RSA first worked out the master plan of the non-process site, laying down the individual plots for the various facilities, the roads and the infrastructure networks. Then they designed a module of office space usage and a proto-type on the basis of which all the buildings could be designed as and when the details were finalised.
RSA then prepared tentative designs for the facilities, which were to be built at a later date. Of these the main administration building, the training centre and the central kitchen were built according to the original RSA designs that were altered followed the original master plan and module system.
