E4H Environments for Health Architecture was tasked with designing the USPI Hospital for Special Surgery in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) and United Surgical Partners International (USPI) formed a partnership to create an orthopedic center of excellence in West Palm Beach, Florida. Adjacent to Good Samaritan Medical Center, the new facility will offer outpatient orthopedic care, bringing nationally top-ranked HSS care closer to communities in South Florida. Care includes diagnostics services, ambulatory surgery, rehabilitation, and sports performance programs.
The new center of excellence will improve patients’ experience by providing a continuum of the highest quality care under one roof. From diagnosis through treatment, surgery, and rehabilitation, patients can easily navigate their care and reduce stress by building relationships with a consistent care team that remains with them throughout their health journeys.
Recruiting and retaining top staff and replicating a one-of-a-kind culture was a priority for the client. Collaboration, ergonomics, natural light, and perception of value were built into the design, as well as the efficiency of space through flexible exam rooms and seamless patient and staff flow processes. The facility showcases wellness through innovative design. A strong visual emphasis was placed on the healing inter-coastal waters, framing this view with expansive insulated glass to provide maximum natural sunlight to the interior spaces.
The design promotes a healthy lifestyle for the community by enhancing the well-being of the user. Surrounded by lush local landscaping, the project was designed to be welcoming to patients while maintaining easy access for cards, pedestrians, and bicycles. A ground-level café and accessible seating areas provide the community, patients, and family with an environment exceptionally conducive to healing, wellness, and confidence.
E4H has a long track record of successful projects with USPI, not only working on many of their ambulatory surgery centers but also creating design guidelines that increase USPI’s efficiency.
