Placed nearby the small creek that gives name to the city of Ribeirão Preto in the state of São Paulo, besides the existing interstate bus terminal, the design strategy for this urban terminal was formulated around the concepts of lightness and openness, one that allows wide visibility of the creek and the surrounding park from the passengers platforms. Even though the building is subtly inserted in the landscape, it stands out due to the sense of order it imposes in its rather heterogeneous context.
The metal canopy is the most remarkable element of the building, slim and light, resting on very thin steel columns. The lining gives uniformity and continuity to the ensemble. The rear block is not only the core of programmatic functions of the terminal but also works as a structural agent, anchoring the main canopy.
The design was developed within new quality parameters demanded by the city administration. Air-conditioned waiting room, comfort room and cafeteria, not often present in this kind of urban terminal, were added to the basic functions of this type of mobility equipment.
