A few minutes from downtown Oaxaca, an old painting factory has been converted into a Restaurant by Espacio 18 Arquitectura, and Moza 'be Restaurant seeks to become a benchmark for the region's cuisine. The project is an architectural 'acupuncture' to intervene in the previous existence, preserving certain elements and enhancing the structure to create new Spaces.
The architectural space of the project resulted in a large free area and a central patio, which the design team made the core of the project as it references the colonial architecture of Oaxaca, around which the patio acts as an intermediary, forming a route that creates fluidity and connections between each patio.
Reclaimed, reused, and reinterpreted Spaces will ensure administrative areas, service, storage, kitchen, game room and different diner areas. The open Spaces help maintain cross-ventilation throughout the year in response to the current world situation. The most powerful intervention in the project is on the steel roof of an olive tree that is more than 100 years old, through suspended metal plates, resulting in the preservation of the West and the completion of the first vision of the street.
Designed to respond to the project's budget and low maintenance costs, the material uses earthen paint, steel structural intervention, indoor polished concrete and outdoor clay. The landscape responds in a similar way to the low volume of water brought by the cactus, using the quarries in the area and the green quarries found on site, which are now benches.
Moza'be is a thinly veiled project that seeks to showcase the best of Oaxaca in various ways, a sensory proposal to reinterpret Oaxaca architecture away from current trends. This space is intended to last in the environment for a long time and contribute to the city.
