数字榫卯家具商店是PFS在武汉汉阳鹦鹉州社区街道的一项以设计建设和运营为完整方式的城市更新项目，该项目是更大的汉阳区政府布局元宇宙产业与数字制造战略的一部分。地点位于汉阳国博大道元宇宙数字产业基地广场，旨在激活武汉市汉阳的街区活力，让更多人能够方便的在附近的街区里就能获得数字制造技术带来社交活力与便利。并运用该技术让用户可以方便的低成本设计制作自己的居家物品，并参与到地域激活中。

The PFS Digital Joints Furniture Store is an urban regeneration project by PFS (Partyfriendship) in Hanyang, Wuhan, China with a complete design-build and operation approach, which is part of Hanyang District Government’s strategy to lay out the Metaverse and digital manufacturing. Located at the Metaverse Base Square on Wuhan International Expo Center Avenue, the purpose aims to activate the neighborhoods vibrancy of Hanyang, so that more people can conveniently access the social vibrancy and to use digital manufacturing technology right in their neighborhoods. It also can make it easy for users to design and make their own home items at low cost and to participate in the activation of the community.

这个项目的价值在于其公众参与性和可持续性。鼓励人们动手，使用数字制造获得物品是一种有趣的可持续生活方式。PFS也在寻找机会和更多的团体或个人一起协作，发力于城市更新、地域激活等中长期战略，为更多的本地青年提供个性化需求的公共场景。

The value of this project lies in its public engagement and sustainability. PFS is also looking for opportunities to collaborate with more groups or individuals to work on medium or long term strategies for urban renewal, community activation, and providing more local youth with energetic public spaces.

1.数字榫卯的由来 – 新冠病毒大流行期间的创新努力

The origin of Digital Joints (mortise and tenon) – Innovative efforts during the COVID-19

以古代传统木构的精美而闻名世界的中国，在近代迅速成为消耗水泥最多的国家，高楼林立和高速的城镇化发展，让手艺人逐渐消失，同时也削弱了个人参与建造的可能性。COVID-19大流行是一个转折点，逐渐放缓的经济形势，也留出了空间给大家去探索更为可持续的方式，所以一家名为“数字榫卯”的数字制造企业在武汉市成立。在设计之都武汉，数字榫卯结合前沿的数字制造技术与传统的木造相结合，因其人人参与，低碳可持续的特性，近年在科研观测、公益环保、青少年课外教育、民生改善方面有所应用。

Ancient China, world-renowned for the beauty of its traditional wooden structures, has rapidly become the country that consumes the most cement in now a days. The proliferation of high-rise buildings and rapid urbanization has led to the gradual disappearance of craftsmen, while diminishing the possibility of individual participation in construction. However the COVID-19 was a turning point, the slowdown of the economic situation has given time to society to explore more sustainable approaches. During that time “PFS Digital Joints” was founded in Wuhan, and PFS combines digital manufacturing technology with traditional woodworking together. Because of its low-carbon nature and participation of everyone, which has been used in recent years for scientific observation, public welfare and environmental protection, extracurricular education for youth, and livelihood improvement.

2.功能的思考 – 一个邀请公众参与建造的开放式空间

PFS数字榫卯是一个新概念的纯木质榫卯结构建筑。这个不需要“钉子”的建筑，并不是一个新的概念，反而是一个老的传统，因为中国人千年前就用木头制作房屋，这个也会让附近的居民产生快速的认同和讨论。

PFS Digital Joints is a new concept of pure wood mortise and tenon construction. Buildings without “nails” is not the new idea, but rather an old tradition, as the Chinese have been making houses out of wood for thousands of years, and this will generate quick recognition in the neighborhood.

在方法上有别于传统木构，整个建筑使用高精度的CNC数字技术加工而成，采用干式的方式被搭建，其中不需要螺钉和胶水，每个单独的部件，从主体结构到屋面覆层，甚至是地板都是可以快速的榫卯接合在一起，而这个过程不需要专业的有经验工人参与，这使得建造的这个行为也可以让街道，公益机构，居民委员会组织和参与进来，实现居民参与共建。

Unlike traditional wood construction, the entire building is built in a dry way using high-precision CNC machining technique, which does not need screws or glue. Each individual component, from the main structure to the roof and even the floor, can be quickly joined together with mortise-and-tenon joints, and this process does not require experienced carpenters to construct. The act of this kind of construction can also be organized and participated by sub-district office, public welfare institutions, and residents’ committees, so that residents can participate in it.

3.建筑部分的巧思 – 传统工艺的现代演绎

Architectural ingenuity- Modern interpretation of traditional crafts

主结构由20个模块组成，一共是386块经过欧盟认证的松木胶合板制成。每个模块之间有大量通用部件，每个部件都是经过仔细研究和1:10全尺寸模型验证的，通过模型验证评估了部件的尺寸、结构完整性和施工简易性之间的最佳组合。在使用 CNC 机器自动切割之前也经过非常严谨的几何排版和路径编辑，以保证材料的最高利用率。生产过程中产生的粉尘和碎屑也被合理回收，用作为汉阳本地一家个体户用作日常经营所需的燃料。

The main structure consists of 20 modules, made of a total of 386 EU certified pine plywood panels. There are many of common components between each module, each of which has been carefully studied and verified in a full-scale 1:10 model, through which the optimal combination of component size, structural integrity and ease of construction has been evaluated. Very rigorous layout each component and path editing is also performed before automatic cutting with CNC machine to ensure maximum material utilization. Dust and debris from the production process are also recycled and used as fuel for a local business in HanYang for its daily operations.

4.可持续概念与实际生活 – 通过“可持续”重新连接起全年龄段的人

我们的核心理念是“可持续”，对于当前的社会有太多太多的东西被浪费，我们不希望这样。对于数字榫卯商店的设计我们希望是最大限度接近零浪费，这座建筑的一切都可以被回收再利用，在未来地板可以回收成为一张茶几、而意外损坏的柜门也许可以变成一个收纳盒。

Our important goal is to be “sustainable”, and we don’t want that to happen in a society where so much is being wasted. For PFS Digital Joints furniture stores that are planned to be as close to zero waste as possible, and everything in this store can be recycled. In the future, the floor can be recycled into coffee tables, and an accidentally damaged cabinet door may be turned into the base plate of a storage box.

可持续的概念不仅仅提现在材料上，在经济方面“数字榫卯”的实验性建筑办法可以实现在当地完成设计、生产、运营一体的全流程服务。来减少建筑业迄今为止不可避免的长途运输、环境影响、时间和供应链成本。对于消费方面，我们提供的家具并非是商品，它更像是一本易于理解的制作指南，帮助顾客自己动手完成作品从而减少经济上的成本。

Sustainability is not only in terms of materials, but also in terms of economics. The experimental architectural system of ” PFS Digital Joints ” can realize the whole process of design, production and operation in the local area. In this way to reduce the long distance transportation, environmental impact, time and supply chain costs in the construction industry. For the consumer side, the furniture we offer is not a commodity, it is more like an easy-to-understand production guide to help customers do the work themselves and to reduce the financial cost.

“Download” design and hands-on “deepening” – a platform to connect designers and customers.

With the popularity of online shopping and the enhancement of digital services, the way consumers shop for furniture has changed. In the past, consumers had to go to a store to pick a satisfactory item and find a way to take it home; however, in the present, the Internet gives consumers another option to have their goods delivered to their homes with a click on the screen. But in addition, we wanted to offer a new option to “download” furniture prototypes directly. Then each person can create it and make it unique.

The PFS Digital Joints Furniture Store works in a very simple way: customers can download their favorite design, then take it to the Processing workshop and use the CNC lathe to cut the original pieces of furniture according to the operating rules. Then take the pieces to the Polishing area to give their personal stamp to the furniture.

To date, we have over 200 designs in our library, from chairs to cabinets and even houses. In the future, we will gradually make these designs available for download. We plan to link more designers through digital design and local manufacturing, so that designers’ works can land in more places and be known by more people, which can also help designers gain more profits.

6.与世界的连接 – 希望能复制到更多地方我们的建造方式更类似于拼图与乐高。

Connection to the world – Wish our construction method is similar to the puzzle or Lego being able to replicate to more places.

开源内容可以让用户按需定制，所以类似3d打印机和激光cnc等数字工具已经问世很久，但是其材料和软件并没有普惠到人群，我们希望通过数字榫卯的技术作为尝试，我们并不提倡所有人购买这些设备，而是为大家在线上创造一个全球的数字家具市场，线下配合一个拥有高精度的数字设备的商店，并以公共空间的形式出现在社区，让用户获得更方便，更低成本的定制机会，并且有机会结识到更多志同道合的朋友。

Open source allows users to customize on demand, althought digital tools like 3d printer and Laser engraving machine have been came out for a long time, but their materials and software are not widely known. We hope to use the “PFS Digital Joints” technology as an experiment, we are not to promote the purchase of these devices for everyone, but to create a global online digital furniture marketplace. Offline with a store with high-precision digital devices and in the form of a public space in the community. Customers get more convenient, lower-cost customization opportunities and the chance to meet more like-minded people.
