在荷兰文化中，成年子女一般不会选择和父母同住。当老年人因为身体或精神方面的疾病需要额外的照料和帮助时，通常依然不会选择依靠子女照料，而是倾向于继续保持自己的独立生活。

同时，由于不同地区的老人生活背景有很大的差异，老人往往不愿意离开自己所熟悉的地点和环境。对于失智和患有其他类型精神类疾病的老人而言，保持熟悉的环境更加重要。为了为老人塑造不同类型的养老环境，使每位老人都有机会生活在曾经熟悉的氛围中，荷兰各地出现了各种不同类型的养老设施。本文中模仿东弗里斯兰海湾农舍样式的小型失智村就是一个典型的案例。

Vliethoven养老机构位于荷兰格罗宁根Delfzijl市，为因身体不适或患有老年心理疾病而需要额外帮助的老人提供护理。在Vliethoven提供的设施内，老年人可以安度他们的整个晚年。Delfzijl曾经作为东弗里斯兰的一部分，拥有独特的海湾农舍建筑样式，分为前后房，前房作为生活起居空间，后方作为工作区。

由Wiegerinck开发的Vliethoven养老机构总体规划中，模仿海湾农舍设计了四栋新建住宅，其中三栋主要服务患有失智等精神类疾病的老人。该设计为56名老人提供了生活空间。并且建筑物的放置方式使它们形成了一个新的广场“t'Loug”，这在格罗宁根的语境中是村庄中心的意思，设计希望老人能在农舍和周边环境中体验到曾经的乡村生活氛围。

每栋建筑都拥有传统海湾农舍的典型特征，设有前后房。前房是大楼的入口。隐藏其后的附加楼设置单人间，配有独立卫浴。房间围绕起居和用餐区布置，起居和用餐区位于建筑的中央是老人日常活动的中心。有些老人永久住在这里，另外一些暂时居住在这里。养老机构努力为老人营造温馨的氛围。起居室配有家具和客户的个人物品，老人的宠物也都有自己的位置。

In Dutch culture, adult children usually do not live with their parents. When elderly need extra care and help because of physical or mental illness, they usually do not choose to rely on their children for care, but tend to continue to maintain their independent lives.

At the same time, because the living background of the elderly in different regions is very different, the elderly is often reluctant to leave the location and environment that they are familiar with. For the elderly who are demented or having other types of mental illness, it is more important to maintain a familiar environment. In order to create different types of elderly care and then each elderly has the opportunity to live in a familiar atmosphere, various types of care facilities have appeared throughout the Netherlands. This small dementia village that imitates the style of the East Frisian Gulf farmhouse is a typical case.

The Vliethoven is located in Delfzijl, Groningen, the Netherlands, and provides care for the elderly who need extra help due to physical complaints or mental illness. In the facilities provided by Vliethoven, the elderly can live till the end of their lives. Once part of East Frisian, Delfzijl has a unique Gulf farmhouse stylewith front and rear rooms, the front room as a living space and the rear as a work area.

In the masterplan of the Vliethoven developed by Wiegerinck, four new residential buildings were designed to imitate the Gulf farmhouse, three of which mainly serve the elderly with mental illness such as dementia. The design provides living space for 56 elderly people. And the way the buildings are placed forms a new square "t'Loug", which means the centre of the village in Groningen.The design hopes that the elderly can experience the rural life in the farmhouse and the surrounding environment.

Each building has the typical character of the Gulf house with front and rear rooms. The front house is the entrance of the building. The secret annex contains the single rooms with individual room-related sanitary facilities. The rooms are located surrounding a central living and dining area as the beating heart of the building. Some clients live here permanently, others temporarily. They strive for a homely atmosphere. The living rooms are furnished with the furniture and personal belongings of the clients. Pets also have their own place.
