Ovoid house is the latestwork by artist Gregory Orekhov, dedicated to the form of an ovoid. A  living cell for work and solitude in anatural environment logically completes the artist’s cycle.

“这个项目是应我女儿阿加莎的要求而诞生的。她梦想拥有自己的户外剧场，但所有可供选择的房屋都显得乏味或不尽如人意。于是我有了自己创造一个椭圆形房屋的想法。在画草图的过程中，信心压到了自我怀疑。卵形房子实际上是所有年龄段的人的私人避风港，因为我们都时不时需要与外界隔离。”——Gregory Orekhov

“This project came intobeing at the request of my daughter Agatha. She dreamt of her own  outdoor playhouse, yet all the classicoptions seemed dull or inappropriate. Then I got the idea to  create a four faced, oval-shaped house. Whilein the process of drawing sketches, doubts gave way to confidence as a result. Ovoid house is a personal haven forpeople of all ages, as we all  seekisolation from time to time.” - Gregory Orekhov

就建筑和比例而言，卵形是一种完美的形式，没有丝毫多余。它是几百万年前由大自然创造的，它是自给自足的，是完整的。同时，鸡蛋是最古老的宗教符号，是新的开始、重生和无限的视觉形象。它本身就是一个新生命的缩影，它代表了一个缩影的宇宙，一个脆弱外壳中的整个世界。一旦进入，人们就有机会体验“出生前的生活”，发现自己在一个外表脆弱但坚固的结构的保护下，保持着原始的寂静，而当今大城市的居民则被剥夺了这种结构。该项目结合了直接的实用功能，以及Orekhov多年来一直在使用的形式的新的大规模体现。

An ovoid is a perfect formin terms of architecture and proportion, there is nothing superfluous  about it. Created by nature some millions ofyears ago, it is self-sufficient, complete. At the same  time, the egg is the most ancient religioussymbol, a visual image of a new beginning, rebirth and  infinity. It embodies in itself a microcosmof a new life, it represents a universe in miniature, a  whole world in a fragile shell. Once inside,one gets the opportunity to experience “life before  birth”, to find oneself under the protectionof an outwardly fragile, but solid structure in pristine  silence, which inhabitants of present-daymega cities are deprived of. The project combines a  direct utilitarian function, alongside a newlarge-scale embodiment of the form with which Orekhov has been working for many years.

The first sculpture from the“My Egg” series appeared in 2016, where Orekhov gave the familiar  egg shape a different interpretation; itreceived four facets and a new artistic embodiment. The  living cell titled Ovoid House is built uponthe same principle. Some might find it difficult to be in a  round space devoid of angular corners, yetthe tetrahedral ovoid becomes an understandable form accessible and familiar to a person.

这个项目的完成耗时一年。卵形房屋由数百个胶合板层层叠叠而成。它们在内部形成一个阶梯表面，而墙壁只有30毫米厚；楼上的窗户用于空气交换和自然光。为了进入里面，必须爬上不锈钢制成的台阶。卵形的形状不仅在视觉上是完美的，而且在建筑上也是完美的：尽管外部脆弱，但结构却具有令人难以置信的强度。

It took a year for thecompletion of this project. The ovoid-shaped house is assembled from  hundreds of plywood lamellas stacked oneafter another. Inside they form a stepped surface,  while the walls are only 30 mm thick; thewindow upstairs is used for air exchange and natural  light. In order to get inside one will haveto climb up steps made of stainless steel. The shape of  the ovoid is perfect not only visually, butalso architecturally: despite the external fragility, the  structure has incredible strength.
