Bread is fermented and baked over time is closely related to time. Just as time is baking bread, the building and space of the bell of May are intended to deepen over time.
The use of sphere iron plates throughout the space, leaving traces over time. The exterior tile was made of a ceramic that was baked like bread. The tile is made with hand prints like bread dough, so the texture of the surface looks different depending on the season and time. Like this, the whole building used a rough and dark texture rather than being clean and refined.
The studio fixed the main bell, which we had from the existing bakery, at the top of the exterior wall so that people could see the symbolic bell from far away from the building and find the bell of May. They made various bracket lights and installed them inside with the artist who was in charge of the exterior material production.
In order for the bread bakers to have a space exclusively, the client commissioned U.AB to made a building without Windows in the small land. Instead of Windows, we made a courtyard in the center of the building to let light and wind in, and we made a rotating circulation line based on the courtyard. Approaching the entrance, the left door will be opened by the automatic door sensor and you can naturally enter the sales space where the bread is displayed. There is an oven right over the counter, so you see the bread being baked right away, and you go out to the exit line with a sense of realism passing through the kitchen.
In addition, this small 'pierced space', which penetrates the building from the basement to the roof, was planted with five weeks of birch trees, allowing views of the wood and exterior from every floor. The first basement floor is a space for kneading, aging and molding bread, and the first floor is a space for baking and selling bread, And the studio planned the second floor as a private space for you.
