Miscegenation is the origin of our republic. Fragmentation is the product of our history. Mixture is what brings us together, what gives us our Latin American identity.
A fragmented, chaotic country, with diverse cultures, climates and landscapes. A broken wall that symbolizes Argentina’s geographic boundaries. In between its gaps, different cultures become visible. A hanging panel labyrinth reveals our culture as a heterogenic unit. We want to include all the geographic components that represent us, the Andes Mountain Chain, the Atlantic Ocean, and the colorful grid that symbolizes the different regions of our country. We also want to capture the racial mix that has been present in our culture as a result of the immigration.
The pavilion works gathering together all the programs that refer to literature, which we consider is the main path, delimited by a fragmented wall, which is also the books container. Through the literary axis, the other areas can be perceived and explored: History, Geography, Culture and Technology. The areas are developed on a perpendicular grid, displaying the exhibition elements through hanging panels and display cabinets. The auditorium is located behind one of the wall’s fragment, and has a semi-transparent enclosure. It is flexible enough to admit different kinds of layouts. Finally, the resting areas, the “bubbles”, exhibit the national political and cultural personalities (Jorge L. Borges, Julio Cortazar, Eva Peron, Carlos Gardel, Ernesto Che Guevara and Diego Maradona).
