NORR was tasked with designing the Canadian Blood Services Facility, the second location serving Calgary, Canada.
The second largest blood processing and distribution center of its kind, the Canadian Blood Services Production, Distribution and Testing Facility is designed to be a multi-purpose hub of life-saving services for patients and hospitals across western Canada. As part of CBS’ National Facilities Redevelopment Program (NFRP II), NORR designed a purpose-built facility to meet high-demand needs.
The layout provides discreet spaces for research labs and production areas, to warehousing and logistics-powered distribution areas to streamline time-sensitive blood donations. The medical facility’s main floor, housing laboratories and production, is clad with modern, pre-cast concrete panels. A two-story, glass-lined entrance and administration area greets staff and visitors. Designed to achieve LEED® Gold certification and compliant with Good Manufacturing Processes, this medical services facility brings attention and awareness to the call for blood donations that aid in life-saving procedures every day.
