Arconiko shows the added value when renovating an existing school building with an integral vision. This results in an enviable new school building where old valuable details show off next to modern interventions and the building combines energy efficiency with a healthy indoor climate. The Rudolf Steiner College (RSC, combining different school levels) has a unique position in Rotterdam where the head, heart and hands are addressed equally. This holistic approach results in a strong solidarity. This can also be experienced in the new school building. The building unites its users and helps the school to grow in its ambition of guiding young people in ‘becoming who they are’. Arconiko has restored the old Technical School (1909) in old splendour, consisting of two parallel building wings with a total surface of 6.360 m2, connecting both wings by adding a new centre with entrance area, canteen and a theatre. The old building lent itself perfectly for the RSC because of its spacious and high craftsman ateliers. With the new centre the school receives a heart symbolising the solidarity of the school. Here the pupils meet and enjoy their brakes with a view on the garden. For large events it turns into a professional theatre seating 450 people.
