The Instituto is a focal point for different forms of cultural expression. It is located in a restored warehouse on Rua dos Clérigos, in the heart of Porto. The site was initially occupied by the pharmaceutical warehouses of the Instituto Pasteur, comprising a unique collection of small industrial premises in addition to two annexes and a spacious courtyard.
We opened our studio in the building in 2018 following a modest, careful restoration. We then conceived the Instituto as an interdisciplinary extension to the studio, offering a series of rooms with different characteristics and facets. Instituto consists of a bright entrance hall for receptions and informal gatherings that links between studios, meeting room, courtyard and services. There are two studios at Instituto. The first is our own studio. The second is a bright room with four workstations, ideal for small teams or freelancers. There is a meeting room, in a bright room with high ceiling. The project room is ideal for hosting talks, exhibitions, photo shoots and workshops. It has a good natural light, as well as it could be darkned for when a presentation takes place. Last but not least, Instituto has a small studio for artistic and research residencies of short or medium duration. It has an independent access from the courtyard, and it could be linked to the working/exhibiting room. Equipped with a kitchenette, bathroom, sofa bed and mezzanine bed.
