DAVID RUBIN Land Collective：Cummins, Inc., the developers of extraordinary diesel engines and associated technologies, has a long history of cultivating the work of significant building and landscape architects, including the likes of I.M. Pei, Eero and Eliel Saarinen, Dan Kiley and Michael Van Valkenburgh. LAND COLLECTIVE is honored to have been selected to design the landscape of the new Indianapolis Distribution Headquarters, working in collaboration with architects Deborah Berke and Partners. Situated on a full block in the heart of this burgeoning city, the DBU Headquarters landscape – Cummins Green – focuses on opportunities to bring Cummins’ talent outdoors as working groups or as individuals. This park/plaza design focuses on gathering people throughout in a variety of environments, including a small amphitheater for focused attention on events at the plaza center, an electronics-friendly harvest table, and intimate spaces for thoughtful meditation. Paving patterning is inspired by DBP’s “calibrated” building façade. And horticulture throughout is lush, regionally appropriate, and maintainable. The site places Cummins on Indianapolis’ Cultural Trail which connects along the western edge of the site. Although privately held, the site is publicly accessible and affords Cummins the opportunity to invite the City to participate in this new urban amenity.
