BCV Architecture + Interiors designed the expansion for one of Napa Valley’s distinguished wineries, Cakebread Cellars, located in an ideal setting for culinary events and wine tasting.
BCV Architecture + Interiors designed Cakebread Cellars’ new 36,000-square-foot expansion, building upon the master plan created by Don Brandenburger. The project will expand the winery’s hospitality program as well as production and administrative areas, maintaining its distinctive character while creating new ways to celebrate its rich history.
A variety of new interior and exterior environments will enable guests to experience all aspects of the winemaking process at Cakebread. A reception building will better accommodate the growing number of daily visitors, welcoming guests with a gallery display featuring the history of the winery and the wine-making process. Off the main visitor center, a dedicated retail space will offer wine and winery merchandise.
East of the visitor center, expanded offices, inventory, and production spaces will improve day-to-day winery operations and provide support to management and sales personnel, as well as Cakebread’s wine educators. The addition also provides space for a new bottling line and press. These spaces define a new North Court, the south side of which is created by the existing winery building. The new landscaped North Court will provide additional opportunities for events and gathering.
The renovation of the old tank and barrel rooms, along with existing offices, will allow for much needed updates to the existing infrastructure.
These new indoor and outdoor spaces will allow visitors to see, understand and celebrate the winemaking process. Each tasting room will offer a unique view from harvest to fermentation to bottling, offering a space for both wine education and tasting. Working with multiple generations of the Cakebread family, BCV designed the new addition to meet the winery’s current needs and position it well for future growth.
