The modern Saratov city is almost entirely devoid of major public spaces with picturesque historical buildings capable to become city’s symbols. This is why the image of the future complex was based upon the image of the old European city with its narrow streets, squares, and cozy pedestrian areas with small cafes and shops situated on the first floor of the buildings. Complex includes a number of historical objects – a building of a steam mill and a boiler-house. They have beautiful pseudo-gothic fronts that include elements of Old Russian style, typical for the industrial architecture of the end of the XIX century. Site development concept implies overall reconstruction of all historical buildings. The concept implies a rich functional program: office buildings, housing apartments, hotel, and a multifunctional concert hall. A unified modern-style architectural appearance will be create using two basic materials: aged brick facing and light-shaded natural stone.
