The key concept of the project recreates an 'open rural court' as a space for connection between the new building, on one hand, and the existing stone building used as storage, on the other, positioned in such a way as to do not visually interfere with historic stone construction.
The latter becomes an integral part of the new context without however losing its specific identity and without risking being decontextualized. For these reasons the new house surrounds the open rural court. A dry stone wall, assembled with the stones of the place, connects with the surrounding context and contains within it the new volume with a contemporary language, which however does not close in on itself but seeks dialogue with the surrounding environment through great openings and views of the countryside, enhancing the specific characteristics of the landscape through the full integration and merging of the internal space with the external one.
The positioning of the building considers the outcrops of rock to be preserved, detected on the surface in front of the historic building. The new building, adjacent to the existing one, consists of a central area used as a living room and kitchen/dining room strongly linked to the rural courtyard open on the pool front, where the outdoor living room is covered with a traditional pergola. the masonry covered veranda, detached from the historical part through a suitable technical joint, creates the filter between the open patio, but bounded by drywall, and the remaining part of the house and the storage room. The bedrooms and the toilets that face the opposite side of the court, guarantee privacy to the night area and more intimate of the house.
