The tiny village of Red Hill on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula may not be a design hot spot, but some recent additions to the area's accommodation options may change that. The 46-room Jackalope luxury hotel by Carr Design is situated next to the vineyard. Now Hecker Guthrie's transformation of the Lindenderry Hotel has been unveiled. While stylistically very different from the Jackalope,Lindenderry is a contemporary take on the traditional estate home, but its design credentials are worth a look.

Hecker Guthrie's idea for Lindenderry House was to create intimate Spaces inspired by the house's charming rural setting -- described by the studio as "contemporary in a traditional house". Through texture, warm wood, color and artwork, tones are combined with the expansive views of Red Hill's pastel green landscape. The restaurant and party space needed to be flexible to accommodate laid-back visitors and conference guests, and had its own visual identity, but felt integrated with the rest of the hotel. For these Spaces, individuality is reintroduced through linings and furnishings that mix classical and contemporary works.
