The intervened apartment is located in a habitational building at Praça de Londres in Lisbon. The whole space was renovated, with a major incidence in structural changes on the living areas.
The bedrooms area kept its original matrix, with the finishings having been completely restored and renewed. The bathroom that serves the bedrooms was reformulated, eliminating the bathtub and creating an antechamber that allows a greater usage of the bath area, obtaining now two shower areas: one by the window and another one in the antechamber.
At the social areas the divisions were reformulated, removing walls that delimited the living room, hallway and maid’s room, creating an open space with both a lounge and a dining areas. In this way the increase of space area and the entrance of natural light into the inside of the apartment were promoted. A pre-existent enclosed wardrobe was dissimulated with the usage of contrast, by placing the doors and sides in MDF black lacquered boards, assuming its existence as a distinguished volume.
Other divisions associated with the social areas, were kept with slight modifications. The maid’s bathroom was reduced and transformed into a guest toilet, thus increasing the storage room at the same time. The kitchen was redesigned and renewed, with the opening into the dining room by a big sliding-door and the redesign of the counter and kitchen cabinets improving the area’s functionality.
