Karjat, with its close proximity to Mumbai, is a perfect getaway for those wanting to escape from the chaos of the city. With its picturesque waterfalls and green hills, it is an ideal location for a second home. Perched just above the Ulhas river, the site, a 3 and a half acre farm, is rewarded with an enticing panorama full of streams and waterfalls that cascade through the green valley. The farm, set against the background of pale green hills, is vibrant and tropical with its flourishing Mango trees, classic rice fields and impressive vegetable patches. A petite yet picturesque waterfall completes the farm. It is here, among the verdant plantations, against the splendid backdrop of the river valley, sits the 2bhk farmhouse. The house is a floating, transparent structure, designed to take advantage of the multiple captivating views that make up its surroundings. An elevated plan, combined with glass facades, allows the users to experience and enjoy the lush landscape outside from the comfort of their home. The primary living spaces are bridged together with a spacious, airy portico, adorned with slender concrete columns at its perimeter. These columns are mindfully designed and placed to allow the portico to seamlessly unfold into the plantations. The two bedrooms overlook on opposite sides, with the master bedroom opening up to the sumptuous river valley below, and the guest bedroom enjoying views of the vast flourishing plantations. The minimal glass facades of each of the bedrooms, offer uninterrupted 270-degree views of the outdoors. The living room ties the house together, offering sweeping, all-embracing views of the landscape beyond. The infinity pool is placed to take advantage of the existing sloping terrain, offering undisturbed views of the river and waterfalls that spout from the surrounding hills.
The materials and textures chosen for the project - concrete flooring and natural stone walls- are kept simple and minimal, to allow the natural landscape to be highlighted. With glass as the primary material, the house effectively blurs into the rich landscape that makes up its backdrop, creating a luxurious outdoor living experience.
