ABOUT
With an opportunity to start from scratch and have a custom-fit work environment designed to match their corporate culture, Freightquote, the largest online freight shipping broker in the nation, engaged RMTA for the interior architecture and design of their new corporate headquarters in Kansas City, Mo. The main objective was to create an environment that was professional and reflective of a company with good fiscal management, while incorporating an industrial loft or warehouse feel to align with the company's laid-back culture.
This industrial design style was achieved through the use of materials such as raw steel, polished concrete floors and exposed structural framing. In reference to the nature of the shipping business, oak wood pallets were used as wall features throughout the space, featured prominently on the elevator lobby of each floor as well as at the receptionist desk. Streamlined glass was used for enclosed conference rooms as a neutral backdrop to the industrial materials. To provide clarity and quickly assist employees with space orientation throughout the building, four separate accent paints were used on soffits and conference room walls to differentiate the open-planning quadrants on each floor. A variety of creative lighting layouts differentiate the various spaces and reinforce the design concepts. Linear light fixtures in varying lengths are installed throughout the open office areas, and distinct linear recessed fixtures were used at the elevators and circulation paths, resulting in a geometric pattern that is reflected in the polished concrete floors.
Overall, RMTA was able to create a successful interior design within a modest budget, resulting in a satisfied client with a work environment matching the company's corporate culture as promised.
