The Body Lab是一家十分特殊的连锁品牌健身房，在这里人们彼此熟悉，共同营造一个亲切的运动社群空间。场地位于商业空间的氛围之中，空间的主人希望这家健身房之中可以容纳一家小型的咖啡馆。我们将的空间属性重新定义为一家与咖啡馆“嵌套”在一起的健身房。

The Body Lab is a very peculiar chained-branded fitness center, where people get to familiarize with each other and work together to create a friendly sports community space. It being located in a commercial envi-ronment, the owner specifically asked for the gym to accommodate a small café. We rearranged the spirit of the space accordingly, as a gym and a café compactly “nested” together.

区别于将吧台、休息区、更衣、储物模块分区布置的常规手法，我们将这些空间功能拆散混合，围绕核心健身区域打造了一个流线与视线均在流动的社交空间。这种“混合”与“流动”增加了以往健身房或咖啡馆没有的交互场景：课程开始前，学员可以在吧台前边喝咖啡边驻足等待，也可以就坐于更衣模块之间，与更衣存包的伙伴交谈，或者观摩团课教室内的学员训练；上课过程中，学员也可以通过半透明隔断隐约看见其他伙伴在喝咖啡、交谈或更衣存包，这时刻给予学员们一种身处于社群之中的感觉，将存在于虚拟之中的“社群”概念具象为空间表达。

Departing from the conventional method of severing bar, lounge area, changing rooms and storage modules, we parceled out and re-mixed these spatial functions to create a social space with flowing lines and sight lines directed towards a core fitness area. Through deliberate“blending” and “fluidification”of spacial functions, we opened up room for interac-tion that would not have been available otherwise within the traditional constraints of gyms and cafés. Before the course starts, trainees can wait by the bar while sipping coffee, or they may sit between locker modules and socialize with their peers, alternatively, they can also watch and learn from group training sessions. During class, trainees might also catch a glimpse of other fellow trainees having coffee, talking or changing clothes through translucent partitions: this transparency might be very conducive to fostering esprit de corps, and to embodying a concept of “community” increasingly relegated to the virtual world in a visible spatial expression.

为了实现这种“社群”气氛，我们避免使用刻板印象中过分刺激的健身房元素，转而采用朴素的材料——水泥砌块砖作为空间主材，同时为设备、收纳家具等这些基础设施赋予明快的色彩系统，强化空间的识别性。这套色彩系统沿用了80年代车间的色彩体系，浅绿色的吧台，橙红色的扶手、消防门，深绿色的柜体，仿佛将时间带回那个平等、有故事的年代。

In order to achieve an aura of “community” and to strengthen spacial identity we avoided the overtly flashy stereotypical elements often associ-ated to gyms, opting instead for simpler materials – cement block bricks as the material of choice, while reserving a scheme of bright colors for equipment, storage furniture and other infrastructure. This color system is reminiscent of 1980s workshops: pale green bar, orange-red handrails and fire doors and the dark green cabinets, are part and parcel of a nostalgic throwback to that era saturated with a sense of equality and stories wait-ing to be told.
