Project Status: Completed in 2018Location: Republic Square Yerevan, ArmeniaPavilion Design: BARDI studioPhotography: Ani Avagyan, Sona Manukyan and Areg BalayanThe Nerka Design Pavilion was an absolute joy to work on for BARDI studio. To be able to work in one of Armenia’s most iconic buildings is a blessing that comes with many challenges. As Architects we respect space, especially one surrounded with historical context. In this instance we found the use of mirrors and abstract shapes to be the best formula for Nerka. We were able to reflect the surroundings through abstract, custom-made displays, to cosily house modern works of art, while not taking anything away from the historical interior. The keystone abstract banner floating upon the entrance we thought really spoke to how we were not scared to integrate modernism with history. This type of cross-pollination always comes with challenges, especially through public thought in a strongly traditional country. We’re proud to have made this contribution for Armenia, receiving warm and positive echoes from the public.
