The Park Royal Resort is a Resort Hotel Project mix with other commercial functions, located on Langkawi Island Malaysia. Built on the ocean front area of Chenang Beach, the project is oriented to capture the beauty and sit harmoniously with its surrounding.

The concept idea for this building was derived by the origin of Langkawi Island's name, itself. Langkawi is taken from the Malay word, "Elang", which has a meaning of an "eagle". Therefore a sketch of a bird's flap that turn into a simple curve stroke generate an architectural expression for this project. This visual strategy applied as a multi expression of facade's texture, and act as a sun shade device for the rooms and other public spaces. 

The mass is formed with a consideration of making an internal micro climate, comfortable for the hotel guest. The hanging "U" shape hotel block is float, one story height, from the bellow massing, in order to let the natural air, flow through out the building, from and to the beach front. There is a Water Courtyard, called: The Lagoon, put, in the center of the building composition, that is intended to lower the heat inside the building environment, considering the surrounding temperature is quite high on the beach front. By allowing the temperature differences between an internal courtyard and surrounding beach front and city area, create, the natural air movement from high to low pressure area.

On the ground level, side by side with the Lagoon, there are an Ocean View Lounge, and a Swimming Pool, whuch taking a benefit of the sunset ocean view, seeing from the "window" created by elevating the "U" shape hotel block, two stories height, above this level. The other leisure area of this project can also be found on the second level, on the top of the man made "Green Mountain", which accommodate the BOH program underneath. On the top of this man made mountain, we could find a jogging track and a multifunction open terrace "bird nest" which also take a benefit of an ocean view. The level 5th, which is the top of an"U" shape hotel block, house an ocean view, infinity swimming pool and a roof garden to host a multifunctional public event.

The whole building composition is ended with the straight rectangular hotel block, which sit on the site perimeter, that allow a higher building heights. The configuration is a double loaded hotel rooms on the lower level, and change into single loaded hotel rooms on the higher level to maximize the sunset ocean view.
