The HyCube: Atlanta is an urban greenhouse facility intended to provide high quality vegetables and herbs to downtown hotels and surrounding restaurants. The plants are grown hydroponically in racks, receiving necessary nutrients and light through engineered systems that do not require soil or sun light. This high yield approach to farming is accomplished using a clean room strategy that doesn’t require pesticides.

The design of this 4400 SF single story structure is that of a transparent cube which is divided into two areas, a grow room and an event space and is located on an existing plaza downtown Atlanta. The grow room is around 2800 SF and houses the hydroponic rack systems, approximately 44 racks in total. The event space is around 1600 SF which the hotel uses for tastings, event closings, and educational events for small groups. The structure of the building is exposed steel and the enclosure system is a combination of storefront glazing and polycarbonate panels. There is approx 2,800sf of grow room space and 1,600sf of event space.
