Metaphor Interior Architecture carefully balanced a modern design with traditional Japanese inspiration to complete the Sushi Maru Restaurant including unique flooring and lighting.
Sushi Maru is one of the recently opened Japanese restaurant in Jakarta that delivers authentic Japanese cuisine, serving the diners with premium experience with fresh ingredients imported straight from Japan. The interior presents a traditional yet modern design inspired from Machiya, a traditional wooden townhouse found throughout Japan.
Machiya functioned as both residence and place of business with over a thousand years of history. It was known for the traditional carpentry techniques and kumki joinery methods that are sophisticated. The interpretation of Machiya can be seen implemented in the storefront of Sushi Maru, with horizontal and vertical wood treatments mainly using solid teak wood and Japanese clay roof tiles, or known as kawara.
