The Kitchens by Landini Associates is an Australian first in food retailing. A swirling mix of food court, hall and factory, under one roof and one brand: “The Kitchens”.
A Gastronomic theme park of provenance, passion, quality and community, laughter, music and stories about how food is made, by real people, for real people, in real time. A cacophony of eating, munching, making, baking, markets and maître-d’s. Engaged by QIC to reinvent “fresh food” in Australia, Landini created a “city of food”, transforming a mono-floored hall into a two story buzz of “manufacturers that sell” and “retailers that make”. Landini’s scope included the visioning, naming and branding, signage, packaging and uniforms as well as the master planning, interior design and tenancy guidelines.
A cultural destination, morning, noon and night (9am to midnight daily), a true town centre – a place to shop, meet, eat and watch the world go by.
The Kitchens is a busy market place crammed full of fresh food being produced and sold by retailers and specialists, growers, chefs, local artisans and manufacturers who are passionate about their food and produce. It’s a place where you can watch food being made and manufactured, learn tips and tricks from the experts, taste specialties and eat great simple food made right in front of you using the freshest ingredients.
It’s a place for everyone and everyone’s place. It’s about simple things done really well. Real food, for real people, in real time; a community inspired by food and society.
A cultural destination, a place for shopping, meeting friends and family, taking visitors, watching events, learning and getting inspired about food, eating and socialising.
- Manufacturing is visible in the market, on the mezzanine level. You can go on tours and watch the process, and buy the product immediately below in the food hall. “See what we make and eat what you see.” All the retailers and food specialists are making things in front of you, talking to you, letting you try things, and giving you the opportunity to eat what they are making and selling.
- Communal dining: there are communal eating and drinking areas throughout the market. Manufacturing and storage becomes a theatrical background for eating and shopping with an intertwined manufacturing and dining space.
- Indoor/Outdoor and Flexible spaces: the market flows outside but also into the rest of the centre. You can sit and eat in the forecourt whilst you’re being entertained. During the day there is entertainment for children. At night there are films and other events celebrating food, fashion and style, from visiting chefs’ demonstrations to cultural talks, fashion shows and ‘meet the makers’. Often there are pop up stalls and food trucks too - either supplied by the tenants or new retailers that you can buy food and drink from whilst you’re outside. The space is also available to hire for parties to be catered for by any of The Kitchens’ specialists.
The Kitchens’ Classics Retailers and specialists combine to create Robina Classics using their hero product. E.g. the baker, the butcher, the cheese specialist and the grocer combine to create The Robina Classic Sandwich.
Food on wheels The Kitchens own food on wheels (trucks and bicycles) makes The Kitchens’ Classics available to the outdoor and fashion precincts - bringing inside out.
Seasonality The Kitchens celebrates the seasons with pop-ups showcasing local seasonal produce. Products change seasonally, so does the hall. This means there is always something new and exciting.
Convenience Concierge Runner, Picker-up of food, Hampers, Events, Assisted Shopping. Cooking School and Specialist Workshops Classes take place every day, throughout the day in the centre aisles, of the food hall and around informal communal tables
