The constructional task consisted of reconstructing a town house bungalow from the 70s energetically and transforming it creatively into the 21st century.
The building in the district of Hausen is located about 4.5 km northwest of the city of Frankfurt am Main, southwest of the river Nidda. The residential property is part of the Willi Brundert settlement.
The building borders directly on to the pavement without front garden. The rooms are horseshoe-shaped around an inner courtyard, without exciting views to the outside.
Architecturally, it was about the dissolution of the many small rooms into a new spatial structure. The goal was the creation of generosity and expanse on the basis of the fixed area and cubature, a living space of about 130 square meters.
This was achieved by the inclusion of the outdoor area into the living area, flowing transitions from inside and outside as well as the dissolution of the room divisions. Many doors and walls were removed and the passages were opened to room height. The nested ground plan was restructured and reorganized.
The clear geometric shapes, right angles and the parallel lines of the building´s structure were reduced to a minimum by subtle interventions.
The aim was to design a simple elegance that makes the owner happy, as an expression of architectural responsibility in the design and execution, with a claim to durability in form and materiality. The aesthetic reduction of the forms, materials and colors lead to a harmonious overall impression, which is underlined by a discreet color and lighting concept.
