This project aims to revitalize the "Former Itagaki Residence," an old private house in Kita-Senju, Adachi-ku, Tokyo. Motivated by the desire to preserve the town's character, the owner transformed the historic house built in 1938 into a cluster of three unique restaurants.
Initiated in the summer of 2019 amid rumors of potential apartment development, the owner, deeply rooted in the area, decided to protect the Itagaki Residence. Despite uncertainties due to the new coronavirus, the restaurant opened in November 2020, with a focus on community collaboration and preserving the townscape.
Located a 15-minute walk from Kitasenju Station, the Former Itagaki Residence serves as a crossroads for historical routes. Concerned about the fading vibrancy of the area, the owner aimed to bring back a sense of community by establishing three distinct stores— "Washoku Itagaki," "TSUJI - Tea and Shaved Ice," and "BAR - BA." Anticipating a dynamic blend of residences and small businesses, this project envisions not just a commercial building but a catalyst for a lively and interconnected neighborhood.
